1970 – The Kings Road was where you bought your Gabbadine trousers. A group of lorry drivers campaigned to ‘save the mini skirt’. Shaggy Afghan coats were worn by the rich and famous, as they drove around town in their Triumph Stag. Lee Marvin was ‘Born under a wanderin’ star’, Norman Greenbaum was seeing ‘Spirits in the sky’, Mathew had his Southern Comfort, Christie sang about their ‘Yellow River’ and Freda Payne had her ‘Band of gold’. Monty Python slithered onto our screens and you could call the Goodies…….Anytime!!!Everton were League Champions and England were on their way to defend the World Cup in Mexico. Chelsea were on their way to Wembley to play in one of the most exciting Cup Finals to be played at the old stadium. It was the first Final to go to a replay………..and what a battle that was….Take a Nostalgic trip down Wembley Way and turn left into memory lane. As well as seeing 2 of the best teams play some outstanding football, see a televisual event, the way it was done in 1970. The world stopped on Cup Final Day. Shops closed and TV dedicated a day to football. Both ITV and the BBC battled it out as competitively as the teams on the pitch. You thought that getting into the Champions League is important……… This ladies and Gentlemen…is the 1970 FA CUP FINAL 1970 FA Cup Final Collectors edition of 1970 FA Cup Final DVD. THIS is a nostalgic look back at 1970 captured over nearly SEVEN hours of video footage across 3 discs!!!
The DVD is a triple disc.
Disc 1 includes a short sequence licensed from ITV called ‘Up for the Cup’.
It includes interviews with Ron Harris, David Webb, John Hollins & Jack Charlton. It then moves onto the Wembley match in full including extra time. The rest of the first disc details the road to Wembley, the fixtures, results and league
table for that season, then finishes off with player biographies of all the team.
Disc 2 has the replay in full plus it includes details of the best films, the best music, winners of the biggest sporting events, what was on TV the day of the Cup Final, the news and a comparison of what things used to cost in 1970 compared with today.
The final disc has 5 Exclusive documentaries that were filmed down at the Hunters Moon [Ron Harris’s holiday lodge].
It was great to see Ron Harris engaging in some light hearted banter with former team mates Alan Hudson, Tommy Baldwin and other Chelsea legend Kerry Dixon.
The first documentary sees Kerry debating Chelsea’s All Time XI with Alan Hudson and Tommy Baldwin. I guarantee nobody will pick the same XI as Alan Hudson!!!!!!! – NOBODY!
There were some great arguments with Tommy Baldwin and Alan Hudson, with Kerry acting as referee.
The second documentary features Ron Harris talking about the Wembley Final and the replay. He talks about players superstitions and routines, the celebrations, the recording of ‘Blue is the colour’
The third documentary is the story of Alan Hudson’s life. Why he missed the Cup Final and missed going to Mexico with England for the 1970 World Cup. He tells of his career with Chelsea, Stoke and Arsenal and his time in America. He shares his horrific list of injuries sustained in a near fatal car crash and his wishes for the future.
The next documentary is a short story from Tommy Baldwin about his part in the 1970 Final.
That is followed by the final documentary which has Ron talking to Kerry about all the players who played in the Final, what they were like as characters, what they went on to achieve and where they are today. It is absolutely riveting! |
